Bara för att det är sommar och sol så tar inte filmfestivalerna ledigt, tvärt om. Under juli har ekumeniska priser delats i tjeckiska Karolvy Vary och Golden Apricot festivalen i Yerevan, Armenien. Av de två festivalerna är den i Yerevan betydligt yngre. Årets upplaga var den 11:e sedan starten och ekumeniskt filmpris har delats ut sedan 2007. Karlovy Vary räknas som A-festival och har åtskilliga år på nacken. Den startade för 49 år sedan som ett som ett fönster för filmer från öst bland annat med sektionerna Forum of Independents och Horizons, men är nu en öppen och bred festival. Det var i år 20 år sedan första ”kyrkpriset” delades ut i Karolvy Vary.
I Karlovy Vary
Den ekumeniska juryn i Karlovy Vary gav sitt pris till Corn Island av den georgiske regissören George Ovashvili(2014, Georgien/Tyskland/Frankrike/ Tjeckien/Kazakhstan)
Juryns motivering:
”Corn Island” is a story of an old man who passes the wisdom of life to his granddaughter. We are invited to reflect on the importance of harmony between man and nature and about the respect and care for others. The film raises attention towards human creativity and the never ending cycle of life.
Särskilda omnämnandet gick till Rocks in My Pockets av Signe Baumane (2014 USA/Lettland)
Motivativering: Rocks in My Pockets” is an animated film telling a personal story of a woman, director and illustrator Signe Baumane, who courageously fights with her psychological illness. She tries to understand her uneasy personal situation, and through her artistic work she shows the always fragile but possible balance of her everyday life.
I juryn ingick Brigitte Affolter (Schweiz), Lukas Jirsa (Ordförande, Tjeckien), Joel Ruml (Tjeckien) och Blandine Salles (Frankrike).
Filmen vann också festivalens stora pris.
I Yerevan
Vid Golden Apricot i Yerevan gick ekumeniska priset till The Abode (2014, Armenien) av den armeniska regissörskan Lusine Sargsyan.
Juryns motivering: In five episodes the film uses different genres to portray social life in a block of flats in Yerevan during the war period 1990 to 1994. It describes the social consequences of war but without losing hope. The jury considers the film to be an appeal for peace in Armenia and all over the world.
Särskilt omnämnande fick Blind Dates (2013, Georgien) av Levan Kougashvili, med motiveringen
Sandro is a 40-year-old Tbilisi teacher. His family and friends want him to get married inorder finally to “grow up”. By living his own life and his own love story, Sandro changes the world around him. The story is told in expressive images of today’s Georgia. All characters are given respect and dignity. The jury considers the film to be a call for following one’s own way but with respect to others.
Den ekumeniska juryn i Yerevan hade svensk medverkan i form av Mikael Mogren som var Interfilms representant, för Signis medverkade Théo Péporté (Belgien) och juryn leddes av biskop Gevorg Saroyan från Armenien.
