I ett antal inlägg framöver presenterar årets internationella deltagare i Ung i den världsvida kyrkan sig själva. De är i Sverige under mars till maj. Här möter ni Rev. Lightness Simon John från Karagwe Tanzania som har haft sin första församlingsperiod i Stockholm.
Hello!
My name is Lightness Simon John, I’m 28 years old. I come from Tanzania in Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania- Karagwe Diocese (ELCT-KAD). Our Diocese is located in Northwestern part of Tanzania country. I live in a family of seven members, where by my parents (father and mother) are still present. I have one brother and three younger sisters. Currently I have been working in Karagwe Diocese as priest since 21st December, 2025 when I was ordained.
I’m so excited to participate in the Youth Exchange Program in Sweden from 10th mar to 27th may 2026. Since the first day we arrived in Sweden I have been learning something new and interesting in everyday life. Especially in my first stay where I have been placed to live in Järfalla parish for five weeks.

The first thing I have been interested in Järfalla parish is how the church systematically organizing and planning its engagement with various groups of people, depending to their age. This is done by setting different programs relevant for the specific groups of people. For example we have been participating in youth nights, with children after school by engaging in activities like football, ping pong and other games, all conducted in the church. We have also participated in an Easter theater for children and have been able to visit retirements homes.

This proves how the church plays a crucial role in educating young people for the good future generation and provides the individual needs of its members in matters of faith. I look forward to learn more and to share the daily life of the all parish I will be staying during my time in Sweden so that to fulfill the aim of our program.
