A handshake or a signature is not enough – go for baptism!

In the perspective of the Christian faith baptism is a concrete symbol of the promise for life.

Below I will present five of my theological thoughts about this topic, in the hope that you’ll take them to your heart and mind. In my next Blog post I’ll hand over the biblical anchoring of these thoughs.

1. Baptism is an action that takes place only once but nonetheless it needs never to be repeated. Therefore baptism gives the baptized the same security as other things that don’t have to be done over and over again. It’s a promise that stays for life and longer.

2. Baptism conveys the same message as the gospel. Their message has historical roots. There are no magical elements in the baptism. The mentioning of your name in the baptism makes it clear that he promise for life is directed individually to you.

3. Baptism springs from the earthbound life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, a most credible, social and loving person. Jesus is our friend and role model every single day. In the mass we are surrounded by each other.

4. Baptism washes over adults, as children, with an eternal grace regardless of your past or future actions, behaviour or moral attitudes.

5. Baptism takes us to Jesus Christ now and forever. With the mission for a just world and liberated nature.

Conclusion: Baptism is the handshake of all handshakes!
